Mitata Nepal - Japan Cultural Exchange Program Report

I came to know Minako Abe from Facebook. I had invited her to become my friend which she accepted. We soon became very good friends. I had asked her to visit our Mitrata Nepal website. After she visited the site, she was very inspired by our work and wanted to visit me in Nepal.

When I came to know that she was a very good dancer, I planned a benefit cultural program for Mitrata Nepal. It was an excellent way to introduce Minako with my friends, showcase our Mitrata children's talent and raise local fund for Mitrata Nepal. Minako was very excited with my plan and she flew to Nepal on June 10th.

We organized the concert at Comfort Zone Restaurant located in Thamel on June 17th. The program started with Mitrata children playing various Nepalese instruments like Madal, Sarangi, Flute followed by songs and dances led by the music teachers Kiran Nepali (lead Sarangi player of famous Nepali band KUTUMBA), Rameshwor Maharjan, Raman Maharjan, Rupkamal Chhetri and dance teacher Basanti Baraghare. Then Minako Abe performed various forms of dance on the stage. The program was hosted by our very own Sumitra Wagle. The program was well received by the audience. There were more than 150 attendees. Everyone enjoyed the performance. The program lasted for two hours.

I would like to thank everyone for making this event a grand success. My special thanks to my dear Japanese friend (sister) Minako Abe for flying from Japan to visit us and perform for this concert. I would also like to thank our chief guest Dr. Chhewang N. Lama, (Sherpa) member secretary of Social Welfare Council for attending the concert. Thanks goes to Mitrata Nepal board members, General Secretary Uzwal Raj Gautam, Treasurer Mangal Man Maharjan, Tara Kunal and Managing Director Deepak Raj Gautam. Our deep appreciations to artists Bhusan Maharjan, Ramesh Maharjan, Anil Maharjan, Mitrata tutors Amrit Adhikari, Deepesh Thapa, Chinu Gurung.  Sincere thanks goes to the owner of Comfort Zone, Shyam Nepali and Rakesh Maharjan for providing us with free venue and to all our beautiful audience, Mitrata children and all the staff members for their valuable contributions for making our event very successful.
