A Musical Friendship

IRIK Supports Music Classes at Mitrata

In 2006, during turbulent political changes in Nepal, around 100 underprivileged children were joined by musicians and artists to play with music and colors.

This film is the story of their colourful musical journey with sarangis, didgeridoos, drumming, chanting and rock singing.

As a result of various social circumstances in Nepal, many children lose their cultural roots and with that an important part of their identity. Imagine Rainbow in Kathmandu IRIK aspires to focus on this situation with a growing cultural bridge-project involving musicians, artists and socially aware people in Nepal and Switzerland.

The selling of the DVD IRIK, together with donations and fund raising concerts, generates funds for instruments and music lessons by professional musicians.

The story of friendship between Mitrata Nepal and Imagine Rainbow in Kathmandu IRIK leads some years back with the deep friendship of Late Ganesh Man Kulu and Salil Subedi Kanika in Kathmandu. In 2006 when Salil and the Swiss artist Thomas Bertschi made IRIK, the introduction with Mitrata Nepal and Nanda by Ganesh to Salil and Thomas made it possible to involve about twenty children from Mitrata Nepal to take part in the film and music journey with the now famous song 'Imagine Rainbow in Kathmandu'. A lively bond started to take place since between Mitrata Nepal and IRIK. The second musical album is releasing in summer of 2009.
